Anthony Yeo

“My Vocation is a Ministry of Grace & Compassion”

Anthony Yeo (1948 – 2009)

First Asian Director for CCC; also called the “Father of Counselling” in Singapore

Tribute to Anthony Yeo

The Father of Counselling in Singapore (1948-2009)
Anthony advanced the field of counselling in Singapore by the programmes he initiated with the team at CCC.

Mr. Anthony Yeo lived a life of service and compassion, leaving an indelible mark as a friend, mentor, counsellor, and consultant across the region. Through his character, practice, and publications, he touched countless lives, particularly in Singapore.

Joining the Counselling and Care Centre (CCC) in 1972, he became one of the pioneering Asian counsellors. As Director from 1980 to 1996, and later as Clinical Director and Consultant Therapist, he transformed the centre into a sanctuary of healing, continuing his mission to bring solace to all who sought his guidance.

Unwavering in his dedication, Anthony helped people navigate emotional and situational challenges, improve relationships, and find their voice. A civic activist, he shed light on injustice and lived by the laws of humanity, embodying authenticity.

He advanced counselling in Singapore through various programs he initiated with CCC, including the Counsellor Training Programme in 1981, the Master of Science in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy, and the Diploma in Clinical Supervision. His seminal book, Counselling – A Problem Solving Approach, remains widely used by mental health practitioners in Singapore. Other works like When Mourning Breaks, If Tomorrow Never Comes, and A Living Sacrifice continue to impart timeless lessons on life and relationships.

Anthony’s writings emphasized the sanctity of relationships, whether with oneself, others, or a higher being. His legacy is a testament to the transformative power of compassion and understanding. He will forever be remembered as a beacon of hope and a pillar of the counselling community in Singapore.
